FAQs

What can I expect when I contact you?

This is the easiest part! The first step is sometimes the hardest but my goal is to make you feel much more confident about your business after our chat. My specialty is helping businesses who are service-forward and have to make clients happy too, so I'm right there with you!

I will ask some basic questions about your business and what areas you need most help with. Then we can chart a plan of action if you decide to move forward!

What do you mean by tax compliance?

Staying legal with the IRS and state taxing authorities is crucial. This means keeping good records of your transactions, categorizing them appropriately and filing the right taxes when they are due. When and how to file are based on how your business is set up so learning the best ways to keep on top of things is important for your business' tax compliance requirements. While I don't offer tax preparation and filing services, I can help get you set up with all the tools and know-how to help you confidently get them done.

As a home-based business, do my legal requirements differ?

A home-based business is subject to many of the same laws and regulations affecting other businesses. Be sure to consult an attorney and your state department of labor to find out which laws and regulations will affect your business. For instance, be aware of your city's zoning regulations. Also, certain products may not be produced in the home. Some states also prohibit home-based businesses from making food, drink, or clothing. In terms of registration and accounting requirements, you may need a work certificate or a license from the state, a sales tax number, a separate business telephone, and a separate business bank account. Finally, if your business has employees, you are responsible for withholding income and social security taxes, and for complying with minimum wage and employee health and safety laws.

Do you offer any tools for small businesses?

Absolutely! On our Resources page, we are working to make templates, spreadsheets and other tools available to you for your various accounting and bookkeeping needs. These will be available in the future so please stay in touch via our mailing list so you can keep updated on the latest!
